Frequently asked questions about the proctological examination and treatment

We have collected the answers to the questions we hear from patients most often – from booking and the course of the examination, through laser hemorrhoid treatment, to payments and recovery. If you do not find your question here, call us and we will be happy to advise you.

We answer what patients want to know most

Proctological problems are a sensitive topic, and we understand that before visiting a doctor you want to know what to expect. We have therefore divided the questions into three areas: examination and booking, treatment and procedures and practical questions.

You will find more detailed information about the individual conditions, for example, on the page about hemorrhoids, and indicative prices in the price list. With anything else, we are happy to help at +421 948 687 667.

Examination and booking

No. Proctocare is a private clinic, so you book with us directly by phone – with no referral and no recommendation from another doctor.

We offer regular appointments at short notice. For acute problems, such as bleeding or a painful hemorrhoid, we examine you within 24 hours of you contacting us – including weekends and holidays.

The examination is led by MUDr. Karim Masalkhi and takes up to 15 minutes. After a conversation about your problems, a gentle check of the anus and rectum follows, complemented by an anoscopy or rectoscopy if needed. We proceed considerately – most patients experience the examination as unusual rather than painful. At the end, the doctor explains the findings and proposes the next steps.

The preparation is simple: the evening before the examination we recommend applying two glycerin suppositories. You do not need to come with an empty stomach, and no special diet or bowel cleansing is needed.

Yes. We examine pregnant patients as well as new mothers with no preparation at all, gently and discreetly. Pain, bleeding or swollen hemorrhoids during pregnancy should not be postponed until after the birth – an early examination helps prevent the problems from getting worse.

We understand, but there is nothing to be ashamed of. Proctological problems are among the most common health issues in adults, and for us they are an everyday routine. We place great emphasis on discretion, respect and your privacy – from the phone booking to the examination itself.

Treatment and procedures

LHP® is a minimally invasive laser treatment of internal hemorrhoids, which we were the first in Slovakia to introduce. The laser fiber gently seals the hemorrhoidal node from the inside – with no cutting or stitches. The procedure is done under local anesthesia and you go home the same day. Whether LHP® is right for you is assessed by the doctor at the initial examination, according to the grade of the hemorrhoids.

In many cases, yes. We can often perform the procedure on an outpatient basis on the day of the examination, under local anesthesia, and you go home shortly after it.

Most of our procedures are done on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia, with no hospital stay. Patients usually return to everyday activities within a few days. The doctor explains the exact post-procedure routine to you individually, according to the type of procedure.

Yes. We handle the diagnostics and the minimally invasive treatment of a wide range of proctological conditions – including anal polyps, skin tags, perianal thrombosis and warts caused by HPV.

Practical questions

No, we are a private clinic, not contracted with public health insurers, and you pay for the services directly. Thanks to this we can offer you a fast appointment with no waiting lists, booking with no referral, and enough time for your examination.

We agree the exact price of the treatment or a combination of procedures after the initial examination, when the doctor makes the diagnosis. We do not publish a complete price list, because self-diagnosis only rarely matches the actual diagnosis. We are also happy to give you price details in a phone consultation.

Yes, we will issue you an e-prescription.

For outpatient procedures under local anesthesia, an escort is usually not needed and you go home shortly after the procedure. We always inform you about the specific routine in advance, according to the type of procedure.

Of course. We often examine patients who have already had treatment or a procedure elsewhere. A second specialist opinion helps confirm the correct diagnosis and choose the right next steps.
